Welcome

You have discovered the website of the London branch of the Beribazu capoeira group.

Capoeira classes are taught in the centre of the City of London by Amendoim under the supervision of Claudio Campos, a professor of capoeira from Beribazu who has established the group in England and Wales.  If you are interested in learning capoeira then go to the Classes section of the site for more information on times, locations and prices.

Capoeira is a cultural phenomenon and art form from Brazil.  It combines movements from martial arts and acrobatics with music to create a game that is most simply portrayed as a graceful mixture of fight and dance.  If you are interested in more information about capoeira then please visit the Capoeira section of the website.

If you would like more information about Amendoim, Claudio Campos or Beribazu, then feel free to visit the Beribazu section of the website for background info.  You can also find out the latest news about upcoming events in this section.

for beginners...

The capoeira classes will teach you the basic movements in capoeira, and as you progress the more advanced movements.  These movements bare similarities to other martial arts, dance and acrobatics.  The training provides a great workout that helps to develop all aspects of fitness (such as strength, endurance, agility, flexibility and balance).

For your first capoeira class it is a good idea to wear a t-shirt and stretchy trousers/shorts that are suitable for exercise.  It is also a good idea to bring a full water bottle.  It is up to you whether you want to wear shoes when training or not.

Capoeira is suitable for anyone regardless of age or fitness - everyone starts their journey with capoeira as a beginner!  However, as it is a form of exercise and at times can be strenuous, it is important to let the instructor know of any injuries, illnesses or doubts about physical condition that may exist.

As well as the movements of capoeira there will also be the opportunity to learn the musical and cultural aspects of capoeira, as well as other folkloric dances from Brazil such as maculele, puxada de rede and samba de roda.
