Music

Without music, there is no capoeira.

In the Roda, a bateria will provide the rythm against which the capoeira games will be played.  It can be made up of three different types of berimbau (viola, medio and gunga), an attabaque, pandeiro, agogo, and reco-reco.  The participants in the roda will also clap hands to the rythm played by the bateria. However, for the roda to have energy it is also necessary for the participants to sing capoeira songs (all of which are in portuguese).  This area is for the songs in capoeira that are a little bit tricky to learn just by listening to other singers.  There will also be music from maculele, samba de roda and puxada de rede.

In the songs ** denotes a line that is sung by the chorus.
